Tabuk City, Kalinga (6 February) -- Two Public Employment Service Officer (PESO) managers from the province were bestowed the Most Outstanding PESO Manager Award from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office recently. Recognized for their commendable performances in carrying out employment facilitation services here are Provincial PESO Manager Geronimo Donaal and Tabuk City Peso Manager Loyda Saboy. Donaal said that the recognition was given for the various efforts of the Local Government Units (LGUs) and PESO Managers along their core services in placement and referral, establishment of labor management information system and career and employment facilitation. The awards were handed to Donaal and Saboy during the three-day Year-End Planning and Assessment (YEPA) held from January 18 to 20, 2010 at the Beaumont Pension House in Baguio City. The award included a certificate, cash incentives and a set of computer for the Provincial PESO and Tabuk City for the Phil-jobnet and reports. DOLE Kalinga Head, Dr. Avelina Manganip said that the two were considered as the most active PESO managers in the province especially in the facilitation of employment generation and services that include the conduct of jobs fair, mobile passporting, assistance services for OFWs and other employment support services. With their efforts, she said that government employment services were brought closer to the homes of job seekers here. This she said was an initiative for the province to cope for the absence of employment institutions such as recruitment agencies and government offices like the DFA and POEA who are playing vital roles in overseas employment. "In partnership with them, the province was able to effectively respond to the programs of the Arroyo Administration to generate local and overseas employment supporting the President's thrust to create 10 million jobs for the Filipino people," she said. This endeavors she said was also contributory in cushioning the impact of the global economic meltdown among Filipino families. The PESO was established or accredited pursuant to Republic Act No. 8759 otherwise known as the PESO Act of 1999 to carry out full employment and equality of employment opportunities for all in partnership with the Local Government Units and City Government Units. Among its special services include the conduct of jobs fair, Livelihood and Self-employment Bazaars, Special Credit Assistance for Placed Overseas Workers, Special Program for Employment of Students and Out-of-School Youth, Work Appreciation Program (WAP), Workers Hiring for Infrastructure Projects (WHIP). Meanwhile, the Public Employment Service Officers Association of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Inc. (PESO-CAR, Inc.) recently elected its new set of officers for the term 2010-2012.
