Tabuk City, Kalinga (10 July) -- City Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban is set to make this town as the new economic frontier in Northern Luzon. In his inaugural speech, Tubban gave focus on building stronger ties among stakeholders to "collectively build Tabuk City" as envisioned by the people. He said that he plans to spend his first 100 days visiting the people "for a more in-depth (barangay) consultations" to empower and strengthening the BLGU with a more participative and responsive process. "This way, we are institutionalizing an empowered, participatory, transparent and accountable form of development planning and local governance anchored on a stronger partnership of all stakeholders from both the public and private sectors in shaping our future," he said. |

Tabuk City, Kalinga (10 July) -- Kalinga Police Provincial Director Virgilio Laya said that the shooting of Jose "Pepe" Daguio, 72, here is not a media killing incident. According to Laya, the first consideration is that Daguio is no longer active as a media man since he resigned from a media outfit in 2008 and currently "not connected with any media group." Another consideration he mentioned is that the possible motives that the police are currently investigating "have no indications that the case is media related." Last week, the police invited a possible suspect, who voluntarily submitted himself for a paraffin test. The test reportedly yielded negative results prompting investigators to consider other angles. |

Tabuk City, Kalinga (10 July) -- The first official act of newly elected Governor Jocel Baac is to activate all mandated councils to make them available and responsive at all times. Baac, in his meeting with provincial department and national agency heads, directed the reorganization of the Provincial Development Council, the Provincial Peace and Order Council and other mandated councils created under the Local Government Code. Baac vowed that change must take place during his term as he announced his administration's philosophy: "Leadership in Governance - Let us build together a new era of leadership and Jumpstart Change at its Best" at work. "However, the change we want to achieve will not be of my own making but has to happen because of our collaboration," he stressed adding that governance is not a monopoly of those occupying high positions but an effort where all stakeholders are involved. |

Tabuk City, Kalinga (10 July) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Central Office, through the Small Enterprise Technology Program (SET-UP) approved two additional proposals to improve the manufacturing businesses in the province. These businesses are the yema processing of Amazing Bounty managed by Ms. Sheila Mae D. Romero of Dagupan, Tabuk City and the rice noodles processing of Kalinga Food Treat operated by Ms. Iluminada B. Calbuyao of Agbannawag, this city. DOST Provincial Officer Alfonso Berto said that DOST central office has approved P150,000.00 for the yema processing and P400,000.00 for the rice noodles processing. These amounts will be used to purchase food processing equipment. Last May, the DOST also approved P200,000.00 worth of equipment for the upgrading of the fruit wine processing of Nancy Processed Foods and Wines managed by Ms. Nancy Busacay of Dagupan West. |
